Becoming Mindful Of The Whole

Questioning, like listening, is an art form we need to regain.

“The ability to observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence.”
Jiddu Krishnamurti

Your daily dose of sanity

It’s time for each of us to be mindful of the whole.

Day #80 of Sanity
It is important to be exposed to ideas that you may not be familiar with. Ones that may make you a bit uncomfortable and make you feel. It is important to see what is beautiful and good, and yet, we must also be exposed to the not so beautiful aspects of life (and work).

We gain understanding and empathy by being exposed to elements that we do not fully understand. That is where dialogue comes in rather than meetings or presentations – we need to be able to truly listen to create something of significance that is sustainable. Otherwise, we end up going back to the drawing board frequently to create more catchy gimmicks or elevator pitches.

Why? Because, too often, the tried and true keeps you in the same place.

The question then, is where do you want to go?  Do you know whether the people out there providing advice and guidance eat their own dog food? Are they walking their talk?

It matters to ask and to know.

When you have a mindset of an adventurer or explorer, you can truly innovate  You are not following someone else’s best practices but asking the questions to create something unique that is needed.

As Jiddu Krishnamurti writes in Think on These Things,

Why must you read? Just listen quietly. You never ask why you must play, why you must eat, why you must look at the river, why you are cruel – do you? You rebel and ask why you must do something only when you don’t like to do it. But reading, playing, laughing, being cruel, being good, seeing the river, the clouds – all this is part of life; and if you don’t know how to read, if you don’t know how to walk, if you are unable to appreciate the beauty of a leaf, you are not living. You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing, and dance, and write poems, and suffer, and understand; for all that is life.

Ask yourself:

  • What am I protecting myself from?
  • What and who do I need agreements with? And, why?
  • How deeply do I desire?
